Mariners Retiring Edgar Martinez's #11

On Tuesday afternoon, the Seattle Mariners organization announced that at Safeco Field on July 11, 2017, the team will retire #11 in honor of former star slugger Edgar Martinez. Edgar's #11 will join Jackie Robinson's #42 and Ken Griffey Jr's #24 as the only numbers retired by the Mariners.

From 1987 through 2004, Edgar was a constant in Seattle's lineup. Whether at third base or designated hitter, Martinez dominated opposing pitching, accumulating 309 home runs, 1,261 RBI and a career .312 batting average.

There is no argument from Seattle Mariners fans that he should be in the Hall of Fame with seven trips to the All Star Game and five Silver Slugger awards, not to mention that an award is now named after Edgar for the top designated hitter.
