Jeff Carter, Sidney Crosby, and Danton Heinen each scored in the first 5:07 of the game as the Seattle Kraken had their three-game home win streak snapped in a 6-1 defeat to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday night at a sold out Climate Pledge Arena.
In Pittsburgh's only visit to the Puget Sound region this year, the Penguins chased starter Philipp Grubauer after four shots on net while their top line of Crosby, Jake Guentzel, and Evan Rodrigues combined for seven points.
Jordan Eberle scored his 12th goal of the season to stop the Penguins early run of three unanswered goals, after a stretch where the Kraken outshot the Penguins, 8-2 to close out the first period.
Joey Daccord, in relief of Grubauer, came up with a shorthanded breakaway save on Teddy Blueger in the second period to keep the Kraken within two goals. Pittsburgh tacked on two late second period goals in a span of 23 seconds, as Guentzel finished a two-on-one and Carter's second goal of the game bounced off traffic at the net.
Guentzel finished the scoring with his second goal of the game on a wrister off the right wing, 8:29 into the third period. Penguins goalie Casey DeSmith earned his first win of the season on 28 saves.
The Kraken return Thursday in their third game of a four-game homestand, hosting the Winnipeg Jets at 7pm (6:30pm Coors Light Pregame Show).
