A pair of early goals in the first two periods were enough to build a foundation for the Tampa Bay Lightning, who got past the Seattle Kraken, 3-0 on Friday night before over 19,000 fans at Amalie Arena in the Kraken only visit this season.
"That's the nice part of back to backs; is you get right back at it, and you're able to turn things around," said Kraken forward Jaden Schwartz.
An indication of how challenging the night would become, the Kraken were without captain Mark Giordano after the team announced his entrance into COVID-19 protocol shortly before puck drop. Defenseman Haydn Fleury returned to the lineup in his place, recording three shots on net, six hits, and three blocked shots in 21:00 of ice time, second most behind Adam Larsson (22:39).
Pierre-Edouard Bellemare (2:52 of the 1st), Ross Colton (:31 into the 2nd), and Steven Stamkos all scored for Tampa Bay while Andrei Vasilevskiy earned his second straight shutout on 17 saves.
The Kraken remained three points behind the Vancouver Canucks for seventh place in the Pacific Division after Vancouver lost, 4-2 at Columbus.
The Kraken, who got 23 saves from Philipp Grubauer, will face the Florida Panthers on Saturday at 3pm PT to finish two games in as many days.
