The Seattle Kraken will have the second overall pick in their first draft as members of the National Hockey League.

The Kraken won the selection during the NHL Draft lottery on Wednesday night. Seattle had the third best odds of any team in the league entering the night at 10.3 percent. The Buffalo Sabres will have the first overall pick coming off one of the worst seasons in their franchise's history. The Anaheim Ducks had the second best odds and will pick third.

The Kraken will have their own expansion draft on July 21 when Seattle will get to build the majority of their roster from players made available from the rest of the league. The entry draft will then follow two nights later on July 23 with the first round. Rounds 2-7 will then be held on July 24.

The NHL Draft lottery was the first official league function that has featured the Kraken as league members. They completed their final franchise payment to the league last month, which was the final hurdle necessary for the team to enter the league for the 2021-22 season this fall.
