Tyler Lockett improving, Ed Dickson likely to return this week

Tampa Bay Buccaneers v Seattle Seahawks

RENTON -- Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll had an optimistic outlook for wide receiver Tyler Lockett as the team returned to practice on Monday after a week off on their bye.

Lockett remained in the Bay Area for two nights after the team's 27-24 overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers due to a severe contusion to his leg that was being monitored for possible compartment syndrome complications. Lockett did not appear in the overtime session due to the bruise sustained at some point during the game.

"He's doing better," Carroll said on Monday. "We'll know later in the week his status. We're hoping, planning on him being able to play but he's got to show it to us so we'll see.

"He's really on the road to recovery now. He's past that. That was just the initial concern and we're very fortunate to where he was at a great place (Stanford Hospital) and they took great care of him and all of that and everything worked out fine. Now he's just on the road back and we're optimistic about it but he's still going to have to do it. The extra days absolutely are helping us here so we'll take full advantage of that."

Lockett has 62 receptions for 793 yards and six touchdowns through the first 10 games of the season. He is coming off his least productive game of the year as the 49ers held Lockett to just three catches for 26 yards, which are both season-lows. However, Lockett is still on pace for one of the most productive seasons by a Seattle wide out in franchise history.

Ed Dickson likely to return this week:

With Luke Willson likely to miss this week's game against the Philadelphia Eagles due to a hamstring injury, the Seahawks are likely to finally activate Ed Dickson from injured reserve.

Willson injured his hamstring late in the first half of the win over the 49ers and Carroll said he's a long shot to return this week.\

"It's going to take Luke a bit," Carroll said. "I don't think he'll have a chance to make it back this week so we'll see what happens though."

Carroll said if Willson indeed appears as though he'll be unavailable, then Dickson becomes an obvious option to return to the roster and jump in to fill the absence.

"If that's the case it's a really good chance," Carroll said. "We've been waiting for the opportunity to get Ed to go and if that happens... we're thinking that's where we would go with this. ... There's a really good chance that's going to happen."

Dickson has been on injured reserve since the start of the season due to a knee surgery in August. He returned to practice with the Team on Oct. 30 after missing the first eight weeks of the year and has to be added to the active roster by the conclusion of a 21-day practice window, which is coming on Tuesday.

Dickson caught 12 passes for 143 yards and three touchdowns in 10 games last year for Seattle.

Carroll: "Disappointed" team was unable to attend workout for Colin Kaepernick

The Seahawks were one of roughly 20 teams set to attend a workout for free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick on Saturday in Atlanta. However, the location was changed from the headquarters of the Atlanta Falcons to a high school field an hour away due to concerns Kaepernick's camp had with the terms of the workout and the waiver he was asked to sign.

The revised workout only saw seven teams able to attend with the Seahawks not making it to the new venue.

Carroll said on Monday he wished it had worked out differently.

"Disappointed," Carroll said. "We had planned to be at that workout. It got changed around and we couldn’t hang with it. Unfortunately, we sent somebody but we couldn’t stay with the changes that happened, we missed it. We were real curious. I was real curious to see how the workout went. Just competing as always, you know."

Kaepernick's support filmed the workout with the intent of distributing the film to all 32 teams. Carroll said it is something they will evaluate and that he had already seen some of the footage.

“We’re looking at everything, always. I’ve seen some of it so far," Carroll said.

Carroll said it was just logistically an issue for their personnel to make it to the second location.

"Yeah. The time frame when we got the heads up we couldn't get it pulled together. We wanted to," he said.

The Seahawks have expressed interest in Kaepernick before. They had wanted to bring him in for a visit in April 2018. Instead, the visit ultimately fee apart and the Seahawks have had other backup quarterbacks since including Austin Davis, Brett Hundley, Paxton Lynch and Geno Smith. Kaepernick did have a visit with the team in 2017.
