Emerald Downs Doins

It's a big weekend to come out to the racetrack at Emerald Downs!

Sunday's $50,000 Governor's Stakes at six furlongs kicks off stakes race opportunities for the best horses on the grounds at Emerald Downs. Many of these runners will be looking toward August 11 and the Northwest's top race, the $200,000 Longacres Mile.

Sippin Fire seeks his first victory of 2019 in Sunday's Governor's after being named Washington Horse of the Year for 2018. Sippin Fire, a four-year-old, took four stakes races at Emerald Downs last year. He has a record of 11 6-2-0 after finishing second to Barkley in a May 12 sprint. Sippin Fire's six career victories have come at six different distances, including a 6-furlong win in the 2017 Washington Cup Juvenile Stakes. Sippin Fire is trained by Steve Bullock and will be ridden by Gary Wales.

Sippin Fire's main competition figures to come from Anyportinastorm, an invader from the potent barn of trainer Blaine Wright. Anyportinastorm comes off victory in the Lost In the Fog Stakes at Golden Gate Fields on April 27 and has won three of his past four starts. Jockey Juan Hernandez comes up from Golden Gate to ride.

Others in the Governor's field are Oh Marvelous Me, Cody's Choice, Grinder Sparksaglo, Tumac Mountain and Hit the Beach.

First race Sunday is 2 pm.
