Jamal Adams, Quinton Dunbar ruled out for Seahawks at Dolphins

Dallas Cowboys v Seattle Seahawks

RENTON -- An injury report that saw as many as 25 different players listed during the week officially has three players ruled out for Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins.

Strong safety Jamal Adams, cornerback Quinton Dunbar and rookie linebacker Jordyn Brooks all will not play this weekend in Miami.

Adams pulled his groin and Brooks took a shot to his knee in last week's game against the Dallas Cowboys. Meanwhile, Dunbar missed last week's game due to the same knee issue that will sideline him against the Dolphins.

"We're putting it together. We had a good week," head coach Pete Carroll said of the secondary after practice on Friday. "We're anxious to see how the guys play. ... The week went really well and was smooth and this is a smart group so hopefully we can minimize the issues and make some plays back there."

In addition to Adams and Dunbar, cornerbacks Shaquill Griffin and Neiko Thorpe and safety Lano Hill are questionable to play, which would leave the team rather thin in the secondary entering Sunday's game.

Linden Stephens at cornerback and Ryan Neal at safety have both been added to the active roster from the practice squad the last two weeks. Additionally, the team signed five-year veteran safety Damarious Randall to the practice squad earlier this week and have cornerbacks Jayson Stanley and Gavin Heslop on the squad as well that could be brought up to play against the Dolphins.

"Really smart football player. Has played a lot of ball. He could help us if we need to," Carroll said of Randall.

With Adams out, Neal is likely to get the start at safety alongside Quandre Diggs. Tre Flowers would get his second straight start at cornerback opposite Griffin, assuming Griffin is able to play himself despite a shoulder injury. Lano Hill would be an option to start at safety as well but he woke up Sunday with a back issue that forced him to miss the Dallas game and it's kept him mostly out of practice this week.

Carroll said Griffin is expected to play.

"He just has a bit of a sore shoulder. He's ready to go. He practiced all week," Carroll said.

Thorpe is dealing with a hip injury that kept him out of the Cowboys game last week as well.

All of these depth concerns come for a defense that has already allowed 1,292 passing yards over the first three weeks of the season, which is the most ever allowed by a team dating back to at least 1950.

Running backs Chris Carson (knee) and Carlos Hyde (shoulder) are both questionable as well. Carson had his left knee wrenched by Cowboys defensive tackle Trysten Hill last week on a dirty fourth quarter play. Hyde appears to be a little sore after taking a couple big hits to his shoulder after the first few games.

With Carson and Hyde both a bit banged up, rookie DeeJay Dallas may have a chance to see his first touches in the backfield for Seattle along with Travis Homer. Dallas and Homer both played collegiately at the University of Miami.

Rookie right guard Damien Lewis is also listed as questionable after he turned his left ankle last week against Dallas.

Carroll seemed optimistic about Carson, Hyde and Lewis all being able to play. He said Carson would be a game-time decision just to ensure he's good to go but that Hyde and Lewis had good weeks in practice.

Fifteen additional players had been listed on the report during the week but all will play without concern against the Dolphins on Sunday.

The Seahawks also promoted linebacker Shaquem Griffin from the practice squad to the active roster to fill the open spot they'd carried throughout the week. The team waived D'Andre Walker on Tuesday and had not filled the roster spot prior to the move with Griffin on Friday. Carroll said earlier in the week that Griffin would get another chance to play this week after earning the opportunity with his play against the Cowboys last week.

The team can still temporarily call-up two practice squad members to play on Sunday, which could include additional secondary depth if determined necessary.
