Seahawks releasing veteran center Justin Britt

Minnesota Vikings v Seattle Seahawks

In addition to the release of D.J. Fluker on Sunday, the Seattle Seahawks have decided to move on from veteran center Justin Britt as well.

Per multiple reports and confirmed by Britt himself via his instagram account, the Seahawks have informed Britt they are releasing him after six years with the team.

Britt has started 86 of 87 games played for Seattle over the last six seasons with the last four years spent at center. He started all 16 games as a rookie at right tackle, all 16 games in his second season at left guard and then 54 games at center since taking over the job in 2016. He started eight games last year for the Seahawks before suffering a torn ACL against the Atlanta Falcons in November.

Britt's release will save the Seahawks $8.5 million against the salary cap for 2020. Combined with the release of Fluker, Seattle will save just over $12 million in salary cap space.

Options to replace Britt at center for Seattle include free agent addition B.J. Finney, Joey Hunt and Ethan Pocic.

Finney has appeared in 59 career games for Pittsburgh with 13 starts. He's played both guard positions and at center for the Steelers. Hunt has started 10 games at center for Seattle in place of Britt over the last two years.
