Mariners vs White Sox is first March game in MLB history 24 years ago today

In 1996, opening day for the MLB was in March for the first time ever. The Seattle Mariners took on the Chicago White Sox at the Kingdome, beating them 3-2 when 20-year-old Alex Rodriguez hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 12th in front of 57,467 fans.

White Sox' Frank Thomas hit a home run off Randy Johnson in the top of the 1st, making it 0-2.

Mariners' Darren Bragg hit a home run off Alex Fernandex in the bottom of the 5th, making it 1-2.

Mariners' Edgar Martinez hit a double to right field off Roberto Hernandez to bring in Alex Diaz in the bottom of the 9th, tying it 2-2.

Then, in the bottom of the 12th, Alex Rodriguez hits a walk-off single off Bill Simas to bring in Doug Strange. Mariners win 3-2.
