The Seattle Kingdome was demolished 20 years ago today

The Seattle Kingdome

Approved by King County voters in 1968, with construction beginning in 1972, the Seattle Kingdome opened in 1976, becoming the new home to the Seahawks, Mariners, Supersonics & Sounders.

The first sporting event held at the Kingdome was the New York Cosmos vs the Seattle Sounders.

First rock concert was Wings on June 10, 1976.

From 1978-1979, the first season the Supersonics played in the KIngdome, they won their only championship

In 1989, Ken Griffey Jr hit a home run in his first ever plate appearance at the Kingdome and was the last player to hit a home run there in 1999.

The NCAA Final Four was held three times in the Kingdome - 1984, 1989 & 1995.

The Kingdome also hosted a Pro Bowl (1977), an MLB All-Star Game (1979) and the NBA All-Star Game (1987), making it the only venue to ever host all three all-star games.
