Considered to one of the best defensive catchers in MLB history, Mariners legend Dan Wilson was born on this day in 1969. He currently holds the American League record with a .995 career fielding percentage.

Traded from the Reds, Wilson replaced Dave Valle in 1994.

He made is only all-star appearance in 1996. He also hit three home runs in one game on April 11, 1996 against Detroit.

Wilson was the catcher when Randy Johnson struck out 19 batters in a game, twice in 1997.

In 1998, Wilson hit an inside the park grand slam.

A total of 14-years in the major leagues, he played 1299 games, totaled 1097 hits in 4186 at bats for a career .262 batting average.

On January 17, 2012, Dan Wilson was named to the Mariners Hall of Fame.
