The Seattle Mariners announced today that Ichiro will take on a different role within the organization. Ichiro will transition to the role of Special Assistant to the Chairman. Ichiro has not announced his retirement. In a news conference this afternoon, Mariners General Manager Jerry Dipoto said Ichiro will not play for the remainder of the 2018 season, but added his future is still uncertain. The Mariners and Oakland A's will open up the 2019 season in Japan and there is a possibly Ichiro will receive some playing time.
