The Seahawks released backup quarterback Trevone Boykin today following reports of Boykin assaulting his girlfriend last week in Mansfield, Texas. According to TMZ Sports, police are investigating Boykin breaking his girlfriend's jaw. TMZ Sports is also reporting that police are expected to charge Boykin with aggravated assault, which is a felony.
Details of the alleged chilling incident from WFAA in Dallas said Boykin's girlfriend, Shabrika Bailey, and Boykin were arguing over a text message when he began choking her until she collapsed. Bailey said, "she woke up in a pool of blood and Boykin allegedly dragged her to the bathtub where he 'tried to clean her up.' Hours later, Boykin drove Bailey to the hospital where he later fled. Bailey suffered a broken jaw on both her right and left side. She had difficulty breathing from a swollen and constricted airway and was airlifted to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, before being released three days later."
Boykin released a statement, saying that the story is false and further stating that he was not involved in the physical altercation.
This is the third incident since 2015 and second time in his career with the Seahawks that Boykin has been arrested or investigated by Police. Boykin lost the backup quarterback job to veteran Austin Davis last season, but remained on the practice squad.
