Seahawks legend Cortez Kennedy dies at 48

Seahawks legend and NFL Hall of Fame inductee Cortez Kennedy has passed away at the age of 48.

Orlando Police confirmed Kennedy's death to TMZ Sports, noting there wasn't anything suspicious about his passing.

“The entire Hall of Fame family is stunned and deeply saddened to learn the news of Cortez Kennedy’s passing," Pro Football Hall of Fame President David Baker said in a statement. "On behalf of the Hall of Fame Board of Trustees, Cortez’s fellow Hall of Famers, and our staff, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and fans."

Kennedy was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2012, becoming just the second player to enter the Hall as a Seahawk. He was one of the lone bright spots in an era of futility for the Seahawks' franchise.

Kennedy came to Seattle as the third overall pick in the 1990 NFL Draft. He made the Pro Bowl for the first time in his second season in the league and eventually was selected to the contest eight times in his 11 seasons with the Seahawks.

Kennedy was so dominant in 1992 that he won NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors on a team that managed just a 2-14 record. Kennedy racked up a staggering 92 tackles and 14 sacks from his defensive tackle position that season.

He was a three-time first-team All-Pro selection, two-time second-team selection and the second player to have his number retired by the Seahawks, joining Steve Largent.
