Mike Zunino optioned to AAA, Tuffy Gosewisch recalled

SAFECO FIELD -- The Mariners sent struggling catcher Mike Zunino down to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday in the hopes of once again resetting his career and fixing issues in the batter's box.

Zunino, 26, was batting just .167 with eight runs, five doubles and two RBI in 24 games for the Mariners this season. While Zunino has at least been able to hit the ball over the wall every once in a while in past seasons, he has yet to hit a home run this year.

In Zunino's place, the Mariners recalled catcher Tuffy Gosewisch from Triple-A Tacoma.

Gosewisch, 33, is a career .199 hitter in the major leagues. He's appeared in 126 total games in parts of four seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Gosewisch reached base safely in all 16 games with an at-bat with Tacoma,  including 11 games with at least one hit. Overall he is batting .240 with five runs scored, four doubles, seven RBI and eight walks in 17 games  with the Rainiers.
