I think John Boyle of the Everett Herald made a great point regarding the Seahawks offensive “problems.” As John stated, it is hard to correct something if the team doesn’t believe a problem exists.

But for the sake of argument, how about we just “say” there is an issue with the Hawks offense right now. So what can they do better?

One thing is Russell Wilson using his legs more. Easier said than done of course, but if we look back at the NFL Playoffs last year when Wilson did make a difference with his legs. In the two games, at Washington and at Atlanta, he ran a combined 15 times for 127 yards and a touchdown.

If we look at just one drive, the Seahawks first drive of the third quarter, trailing 20-0 at the time, his ability to run made a difference in the drive, and effectively the game. Facing a second and 9 from their own 32 Wilson scrambled for 17 and a first down. Three players later, on third and one from the Atlanta 42, on a designed run he ran for two yards and a key first down. A couple of players later Wilson found Golden Tate for a 29 yard touchdown and we had a ballgame.

Those two runs, one a scramble, one a designed run, illustrated how dynamic a quarterback Russell Wilson could be. When we say he needs to “run more” it can mean two things- designed run or a scramble. Really, as was proven on that drive, it doesn’t matter if it is a called run play or something he just reacts to, Wilson’s legs need to be utilized more by both him and the team Sunday against San Francisco.
