RENTON - Seattle Seahawks cornerback will need to have surgery on his injured knee, according to head coach Pete Carroll.
"It looks like he's going to have some work done on his knee," Carroll said. "He's got real minor stuff to get done. We've got to get some things cleaned up. We're going to try to do this really quickly. If all stays on course, he'll get a little something done the next couple days."
Carroll said the issue is very minimal and they are still discussing the issue, but believe that now may be the time to get it taken care of.
In Simon's absence, Carroll said DeShawn Shead and Marcus Burley would be the next guys up.
Carroll said they have been pleased with what Burley has shown this week since being acquired via trade from the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday.
"The reason we liked him so much is because he was such a tough guy on special teams," Carroll said. "He shows the mentality of our other guys and fits right in."
"He's been coached by guys that we've coached before so he has the background of the technique stuff that we've done and so we thought it was a nice fit."
Backup center Lemuel Jeanpierre is out with a neck injury. Carroll didn't elaborate much on the issue.
"We'll find out in a little bit," Carroll said. "Let you know a little bit later."
Carroll said Stephen Schilling is ready to go in Jeanpierre's place. The feeling given off by Carroll was that Jeanpierre's issue is somewhat significant.
Cornerback Jeremy Lane (groin) and linebacker Bruce Irvin (hip) are probable to play. Running back Christine Michael is out with a hamstring strain.
Wide receiver Bryan Walters is expected to be active for the game after being re-signed this week. Carroll said Walters' versatility is what they coveted in electing to bring him back to the roster.
Tight end Cooper Helfet (knee) and linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis (hamstring) are also out.
The players also elected their team captains for the season.
Quarterback Russell Wilson is the offensive team captain. Safety Kam Chancellor is the defensive team captain and kicker Steven Hauschka and punter Jon Ryan were both named special teams captains.
