TUCSON, Ariz. – The Tacoma Rainiers held on to topple the Tucson Padres 6-5 at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium on Wednesday night. The victory earned the Rainiers a series win over the Padres in the final game of a three-game set between the two clubs.

With the score tied at 2-2, Tacoma took the lead for good thanks to a three-run inning in the top of the fourth. Abraham Almonte drove in the go-ahead run after plating Nate Tenbrink from third on a ground out. Almonte and Carlos Triunfel each scored runs on two separate throwing errors later in the frame.

Triunfel accounted for Tacoma’s sixth and final run of the night after delivering a two-out triple that drove in Tenbrink in the fifth.

The Padres rallied with three runs over the seventh and eighth innings to come within a run, but right-hander reliever Logan Bawcom surrendered all three batters he faced in the bottom of the ninth to clinch the Rainiers fourth win in the final game of the club’s seven-game road trip.

Tacoma combined to collect 11 hits, led by Triunfel’s 3-for-4 effort. Stefen Romero extended his season-high hitting streak to 10 games after recording an RBI double in the first, and Carlos Peguero stretched his streak to seven after doubling in the seventh.

Brian Sweeney (8-3) held the Padres to four runs on eight hits over 6.1 innings on the way to earning his team-leading eighth win of the season. The victory is the right-hander’s 66th of his Rainiers career (since 1999) - the sixth-most in franchise history.

Bawcom collected his team-leading 16th save after striking out two over 1.2 shutout frames.

At 55-39, Tacoma boasts the best record in the Pacific Coast League and holds a four-game lead over Salt Lake and Colorado Springs for first place in the Pacific Northern Division.

The Rainiers head back to Cheney Stadium to host a four-game series with the Reno Aces beginning at 7 p.m. tomorrow, July 11. Right-hander Brandon Maurer (2-3, 4.37) is slated to start for Tacoma in the series opener against Aces right-hander Mark Serrano (0-0, 1.80).
